Four different photos, four different times of the day and four different perspectives went into the composition of this one. This was done with a limited palette of four colours, one of which only appeared in two spots.
I did a number of small coloured sketches to figure out how to do the waves. When I showed someone, they said "You need to be careful of waves because if a surfer looks at it and the waves don't match what's under the water, then it won't work". So I spent a few hours looking at surf magazines and photos of beaches to see if I could figure out how the sea floor impacted how waves broke on the shore - an interesting exercise.
